Amalie von Stubenrauch (born October 4, 1805 in Munich , † April 14, 1876 in Tegernsee ) was a German theater actress and long-time confidante and lover of Wilhelm I , King of Württemberg .

Life

Amalie von Stubenrauch was the daughter of the royal auditor Johann von Stubenrauch and his wife Walburga, née Mossmayr († 1855). She received careful training and first made her debut in 1824 on the stage of the court theater in Munich, where she became the audience's favorite in the role of tragic lover. She also gave guest appearances in Frankfurt am Main , Darmstadt and Stuttgart. In 1829 she got an engagement at the Royal Court Theater in Stuttgart. In 1830 and 1831 she gave guest performances at the court theaters in Vienna and Berlin . She had a close relationship with King Wilhelm I of Württemberg until his death. However, she was not his mistress , lived an independent life and stayed away from court society. In an anonymously published diatribe in 1848, she was compared with the scandalous Lola Montez . The king died in 1864; unlike his wife Pauline , whom he excluded from the inheritance, he considered Amalie von Stubenrauch, who had cared for him until death, in his will. After his death she left the kingdom and moved to Tegernsee, where she died on April 14, 1876 at eight o'clock in the morning and was buried.

Her sister Monika Maria Josephine von Stubenrauch was married to the Württemberg court actor Franz Ludwig Feodor Löwe (1816–1890).
