Amama Mbabazi (born January 16, 1949 in Mpiro , Kigezi ) is a Ugandan politician .

Life

Mbabazi graduated from Makerere University in Kampala with a law degree in 1975 .

From 1986 to 1992 he was Minister of Defense and then Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Regional Cooperation. From 2001 to 2011 he was again Uganda's Defense Minister. On May 24, 2011, he took over the post of Prime Minister. In September 2014 he lost this office, then also the post of General Secretary of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and in January 2015 his post on its Central Committee. In the elections in Uganda on February 18, 2016, he ran as one of eight presidential candidates and received 1.4% of the valid votes.
