She started speed skating and short track at the age of four . Since 1998 she competed in national competitions before she was accepted into the Canadian national team in 2000. She trained under Sébastien Cros at the Montreal Performance Center . In November 2002 she finally made her debut in the World Cup . In her second World Cup appearance, she achieved a podium finish for the first time in the relay with second place. At the last World Cup, she was also able to win a World Cup race for the first time, also in the relay. At their first World Cup in Warsaw in 2003 , Overland was immediately successful. She won the silver medal in the relay. At the team world championship in 2004 in Saint Petersburg , she was fourth.
Then Overland could only draw attention to itself again in the 2004/05 season . She reached six podium places, four in the relay and two for the first time in individual races. She came second over 1000 m and third over 1500 m. She also achieved sixth place in the discipline world cup over 1000 m. At the World Championships in Beijing , she achieved her best individual placements. In the all-around event she was eighth, over 1000 m she just missed a medal in fourth. Overland won the gold medal with the season, but it was not used in the final, only in the preliminary and semi-finals. At the team world championship in Chuncheon , she won the bronze medal with her teammates. In the following season 2005/06 Overland won their second World Cup race in the relay, but they did not reach other podium places. Over 1000 m and 1500 m she was seventh in the discipline world cup. At the World Championships in Minneapolis , she again won a relay medal. This time the quartet won the silver medal. At the team world championships in Montreal Overland repeated winning the bronze medal from the previous year. She qualified for the Olympic Games in Turin . There she was fifth over 1000 m and 1500 m. In the season she won silver, although she was only used in the semi-finals, but not in the final.
In the 2006/07 season , Overland achieved a podium finish in the relay at each of the two home World Cups, including a World Cup victory. At the World Championships in Milan , she achieved seventh place over 500 m as the best individual result. With the relay she won bronze. At the team world championship in Budapest she reached the third bronze medal in a row. Overland's last 2007/08 season in the international top brought her three more podiums, including a third place over 1000 m. As in the previous season, she won relay silver at the world championship in Gangneung and bronze in the team at the team world championship in Harbin .
Overland missed the following season due to injury and could not qualify for the Canadian World Cup team in 2009. She then ended her active career. Overland's sister Cindy and her brother Kevin were also successful short trackers who competed in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics.
