Ambrose Rayappan

Ambrose Rayappan (born February 25, 1901 in Dharapuram ; † November 24, 1999 ) was an Indian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore .

Life

Ambrose Rayappan received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Coimbatore on December 16, 1923 .

On January 8, 1953, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Sidon and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Pondicherry and Cuddalore. The Archbishop of Pondicherry, Auguste-Siméon Colas MEP , donated him episcopal ordination on March 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Bangalore , Thomas Pothacamury , and the Bishop of Coimbatore, Francis Xavier Muthappa .

On August 7, 1953 Pius XII appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Selymbria and appointed him Coadjutor Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore. Ambrose Rayappan became Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore on November 28, 1955, succeeding the resigned Auguste-Siméon Colas MEP.

Rayappan resigned as Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore on March 17, 1973.

Ambrose Rayappan attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
