The ant-nock head is 1925  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the southwestern part of the mountain range of the Reiter Alm in the Berchtesgaden Alps . It lies on the border between Austria and Germany. It is separated from the Stadelhorn ( 2286  m ) to the northeast by the Hochgscheidsattel. A ridge leads over the Ameisnockenkopf to the southwest over the Gernhorn ( 1908  m ) and the Leimbichlhorn ( 1866  m ) to the Sülzenstein ( 1694  m ).

The lower slope areas are occupied by extensive snow heather and pine forests. With increasing altitude, these are replaced by subalpine spruce and larch forests. Mountain pine forests have developed in the flatter areas of the rock faces . The summit ridge is largely free of vegetation. From the Ameisnockenkopf there are views of the Loferer and Leoganger Steinberge in the west, the southern peaks of the Reiteralm in the northeast, and the massifs of Hochkalter and Watzmann in the southeast.

The eastern slope areas belong to the Berchtesgaden National Park . The western slopes are protected as a nature reserve on the Austrian side.
