Amelia Smart (born August 1, 1998 ) is a Canadian ski racer . She specializes in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom .

biography

Amelia Smart is from Invermere , British Columbia . She has a younger sister and is studying computer science at the University of Denver .

At the age of 16, she competed in her first FIS races in Canada and achieved top results straight away. Just a week later she made her debut in her home country in the Nor-Am Cup . In February 2016 she started at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Hafjell . The closest she came to a medal in the combination, in which she finished eighth. In Super-G and Slalom she was classified 19th, in giant slalom she was eliminated. At the Canadian Championships, she just missed a medal twice, finishing fourth in slalom and combination. In the 2016/17 season she achieved her breakthrough in the Nor-Am Cup with two wins, in which she won the giant slalom classification. At her first Junior World Championship in Åre , she started in all disciplines except downhill, but only reached the finish in the Super-G and finished 44th.

On November 25, 2017, she made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Killington . In her fourth race, the Courchevel parallel slalom , she qualified for the run-off of the top 32 and won her first World Cup point as the penultimate. In the Nor-Am-Cup, she won the slalom classification and won the NCAA title in giant slalom and slalom at university level , for which she was twice named best college skier of 2018. She achieved her best World Cup result for the time being in December 2018 with 28th place in the Courchevel slalom. She achieved a significant increase at the beginning of 2020 when she finished 17th in the Zagreb slalom .
