Amelung I. von Varendorff , also called Amelung I. von Varendorf (* before 1309 at Sutthausen Castle ; † November 25, 1355 ibid) from 1348 the elder , was an Osnabrück knight and episcopal feudal and castle man in Iburg . He was lord of the castle on the in Osnabruck located castle Sutthausen .

Life

Amelung von Varendorff was born in Sutthausen Castle in the Diocese of Osnabrück before 1309 and came from a line of the Osnabrück noble family of the Lords of Varendorff . His father was Eberhard II von Varendorff zu Sutthausen , who had built the former Sutthausen estate against the will of Osnabrück Bishop Konrad II von Rietberg and the city of Osnabrück into a permanent castle ; his mother was Bertardis von Korff . Like his father, Amelung received the knighthood and became Burgmann of Iburg . As an episcopal feudal man , he received one of the Varendorff castle fiefs within the walls of Iburg . After the death of his brother Eberhard III. von Varendorff came into the possession of Sutthausen Castle and its fiefs . Amelung von Varendorff was married to Amalberga v. Lingen to Wulften . On February 12, 1357, Amelung's son Eberhard V. von Varendorff donated a pension for the altar founded by his father in memory of his parents who died on October 18, 1345 and November 25, 1355. In the monastery church in Iburg there is still an epitaph that shows Amelung von Varendorff and his wife Amalberga. It is a rare five-wound image from the 14th century .
