Ameziniummetilsulfat is a drug from the group of indirect sympathomimetics .

It works by inhibiting the breakdown of norepinephrine in the body and therefore increases the concentration of this hormone . The norepinephrine mainly acts on the blood vessels . These contract, which causes an increase in blood pressure and also improves blood flow to the organs . The performance of the heart (pumping power) is hardly changed. There may be a reflex decrease in the heart rate , but with high doses an increase in the heart rate .

Ameziniummetilsulfat is used as a medicinal product for the oral treatment of a drop in blood pressure caused by circulatory regulation disorders that can arise when the body is in an upright posture (e.g. standing for a long time) ( orthostatic hypotension) and when symptomatic treatment with the usual measures has not been successful. Intravenously, ammonium metal sulfate is indicated for the prevention or treatment of a drop in blood pressure due to epidural anesthesia and spinal anesthesia .
