The Gökırmak is a left tributary of the Kızılırmak in northern Turkey .
Gökırmak means “blue river”. The Gökırmak was called Amnias in ancient times . The river has its source in the West Pontic Mountains west of Daday . It flows mainly in an easterly direction through the provinces of Kastamonu and Sinop . The Gökırmak runs between the two mountain ranges Küre Dağları in the north and Ilgaz Dağları in the south. The provincial capital Kastamonu is located south of the river. The Gökırmak passes the city of Taşköprü . The city of Boyabat is located on the southern edge of the Gökırmak Valley. East of Durağan , the Gökırmak finally flows into the Kızılırmak below the Boyabat Dam . The Gökırmak has a length of 221 km.
