The Boyabat Dam has been under construction since 2008 on Kızılırmak near Durağan on the border between the two Turkish provinces of Samsun and Sinop .
With its three Francis turbines , the hydropower plant will generate electricity with a nominal output of 3 × 171 = 513 MW from 2014 and 1.5 billion kWh per year. The reservoir holds 3557 million m³. Its water surface will be 60 km² (or 65.4 km²) and extend into the provinces of Samsun and Çorum .
The gravity dam will be 195 m high and 262 m long with a concrete volume of 2.7 million m³.
The construction costs amount to the equivalent of US $ 1.2 billion. At Kızılırmak, another 23 dams are planned or already in operation.
