The Derbent Dam ( Turkish Derbent Barajı ) is located 15 km south of Bafra in the northern Turkish province of Samsun on the lower reaches of the Kızılırmak .

The Derbent Dam was built between 1984 and 1990 by the state water authority DSİ . It is used for energy generation and irrigation . It is the lowest of a series of dams on the Kızılırmak and is located about 35 km from its mouth in the Black Sea . Upstream is the Altınkaya Dam .

The barrier structure of the dam is a stone embankment dam with a clay core . The dam is 29 m high and has a volume of 2.5 million m³. The crown length is 517 m. The 16 km long reservoir covers an area of ​​16.5 km² and has a storage volume of 213 million m³. The dam is designed to irrigate an area of ​​47,750 hectares. The Derbent Dam hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 58  megawatts (2 × 26 MW and 1 × 6.3 MW). The average annual energy production is 257 GWh. The power plant is now operated by the state energy company Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (EÜAŞ) operated.

The reservoir is also used for fish farming.
