Bafra is a city in the Turkish province of Samsun . Bafra is located in the Black Sea region 20 km from the coast. The city also forms the center of the district of the same name . In 2010 the city had about 87,000 and the district 144,000 inhabitants. The district includes around 120 villages and 4 belediyes . Since a regional reform in 2014, the district is identical in terms of area and population to the district town.

The city lies in the alluvial plain of the Kızılırmak at the intersection of the river and the road connecting Sinop and Samsun , on the east bank of the Kızılırmak.

The region has been around for 5,000 BC. Colonized by Christ. There are different Höyüks in the district, u. a. the Böğürtlen Höyüğü and the Höyük in the village of Beylik. Foothills of the Canik Mountains run through the district. The highest mountain is the Nebyan Dağı (1,224 m).

Attractions

  • The Çetinkaya Bridge, one of the first major construction projects in the republic. It crosses the Kızılırmak and replaced a 650 m long wooden bridge in 1937.
  • The İkiztepe excavation site with finds from the Copper, Early Bronze and Hittite Ages
  • The Şifa hammam, an approximately three hundred year old Turkish bath
  • The ruins of Asar, castle ruins from the 1st millennium BC Chr.
