Bang Khonthi District ( Thai : อำเภอ บางคนที ) is a district ( Amphoe ) of Samut Songkhram . Samut Songkhram Province is located in the central region of Thailand .

geography

The district is located on the northwestern edge of the Bay of Bangkok .

Neighboring districts (clockwise from the east): the Amphoe Mueang Samut Songkhram and Amphawa of the Samut Songkhram Province and the Amphoe Wat Phleng , Mueang Ratchaburi and Damnoen Saduak of the Ratchaburi Province .

The Mae Nam Mae Klong (Mae Klong River) flows through the county.

history

In 1913, Bang Khonthi was enlarged to include the area of ​​Mae Nam Om; up to now in Ratchaburi it was also subordinated to Samut Songkhram. In 1914 the district was renamed from Si Muen ( สี่ หมื่น ) to Bang Konthi.

Attractions

Cathedral of the Nativity of Mary

Khai Bang Kung is a former Navy fort, which was of great importance in the late Ayutthaya and Thonburi periods. After being in disrepair for nearly 200 years, a group of Thai Boy Scouts renovated the area in 1967 and a statue of King Taksin was erected.

The most important Buddhist temple ( Wat ) is Wat Charoen Sukharam Worawihan. In his ubosot one is Buddha statue called Luang Pho Toa highly revered.

Bang Nok Khwaek is the center of the Roman Catholic diocese of Ratchaburi . The Cathedral of the Birth of the Virgin Mary was built in 1890 in a Franco- Gothic style.

Bang Nok Khwaek Traditional Floating Market, near King Rama II Memorial Park, is open all day on weekends and bank holidays.

  • Kradang-nga (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล กระดังงา ) consisting of parts of the tambon Kradang-nga.
  • Bang Nok Khwaek (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บาง นก แขวก ) consisting of the complete Tambon Bang Nok Khwaek and parts of the Tambon Bang Khonthi.
