Amphoe Mueang Samut Songkhram ( Thai : อำเภอ เมือง สมุทรสงคราม ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) in the east of Samut Songkhram Province . Samut Songkhram Province is located in the central region of Thailand .
history
The county was established in 1897 and was then called Lom Thuan. It was steered from the Monthon Ratchaburi . In 1900 the county office moved to the temple area of Ban Prok, as it was called since 1917. In 1925 the office was relocated again to Mae Klong in Tambon Mae Klong, at the same time the name of the county changed again. In 1938 the district was renamed Mueang Samut Songkhram. The county administration building has been on Ekachai Road, Tambon Mae Klong, since 1964.
The locals still call Samut Songkhram Mae Klong.
geography
Amphoe Samut Songkhram is located in the western central region on the Mae Nam Mae Klong (Mae Klong River) , which also flows into the Gulf of Thailand here . The distance to the capital Bangkok is about 70 kilometers.
