Amphoe Mueang Trat ( Thai : อำเภอ เมือง ตราด ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the southeast of Trat Province . The Trat Province is located in the eastern region of Thailand on the border with Cambodia , but is administratively counted to central Thailand .

Neighboring districts (clockwise from west): the Laem Ngop , Khao Saming and Bo Rai districts of Trat Province, the Pursat and Koh Kong provinces of Cambodia , and finally Khlong Yai district in Trat Province. In the south is the Gulf of Thailand .

history

The area of ​​today's district was settled in 1901 as a "Khwaeng" of the Mueang Trat. In 1908 the government elevated the Khwaeng to the status of Amphoe Mueang Trat. In 1921 the district was renamed Bang Phra after the name of the central tambon . In 1938 the name was changed back to Mueang Trat to bring it into line with the naming standard for major districts of provinces.
