Amphoe Renu Nakhon ( Thai : อำเภอ เรณูนคร ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the southeast of the province of Nakhon Phanom . The province of Nakhon Phanom is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

history

Originally Renu Nakhon was a principality ( Müang ) , which was converted into a district ( Amphoe ) in 1907 during the Thesaphiban administrative reform . In 1917 he was demoted to a commune ( tambon ) of That Phanom County . On May 1, 1970 Renu Nakhon was again converted into a "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) , which consisted of the three Tambon Renu, Phon Thong and Tha Lat. It finally received full amphoe status on August 21, 1975.

population

Many people from the Phu Thai ethnic minority ( Thai : ชาว ภู ไท ) live in Renu Nakhon . They have saved much of their traditions into modern times, such as their dances and the Bai-Si-Su-Kwan ceremony. They are characterized by their cotton weaving, which is particularly popular with tourists. They brew a unique alcoholic drink "Lao Uh" ( เหล่า อุ - pronunciation: [ lâo-ù ]), which is made from glutinous rice and is known nationwide.

Attractions

  • Phra That Renu ( Thai : พระ ธาตุ เรณู ) - the 35 meter high stupa in Laotian style is located 52 kilometers south of the provincial capital Nakhon Phanom. It was reduced in size based on the Phra That Phanom model in 1918, and inside there is a golden Buddha statue and a cabinet with the Buddhist scriptures ( Tipitaka ) .
