Amphoe Mueang Nakhon Phanom ( Thai อำเภอ เมือง นครพนม ) is a district ( Amphoe - Administrative District) of the Nakhon Phanom Province . The province of Nakhon Phanom is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

The district of Amphoe Mueang Nakhon Phanom includes the provincial capital Nakhon Phanom .

geography

Nakhon Phanom is located on the extreme northeastern border of Thailand on the border with Laos on the banks of the Mekong .

Neighboring districts (clockwise from the south): Amphoe That Phanom and Renu Nakhon of Nakhon Phanom Province, Amphoe Kusuman of Sakon Nakhon Province and Amphoe Pla Pak and Tha Uthen in turn from Nakhon Phanom Province. To the east, on the other bank of the Mekong, lies the Laotian province of Khammuan .

history

In 1917 the district of Mueang was renamed Nong Buek ( หนอง บึก ). In 1938 the name was changed to Mueang Nakhon Phanom.
