history

The Avenwedde office was founded on April 1, 1914 when the three communities Avenwedde, Friedrichsdorf and Spexard were separated from the Reckenberg office by decree of the Prussian Ministry of the Interior and merged into a new office. The municipalities had campaigned for the establishment of the new office because the office in Wiedenbrück, the official seat of the Reckenberg office, was difficult for citizens to reach due to the long distances and poor rail connections.

The seat of the new office was Avenwedde. The first office was in two rooms of the Bettenworth restaurant, which soon proved to be too small for this purpose. The decision to build a new administrative office in 1918 was delayed due to the turmoil after the war. The new building was ready for occupation in 1926 and was expanded after the Second World War. Today it serves as the administrative building of a private company.

By the law on the reorganization of the district of Wiedenbrück and parts of the district of Bielefeld , the office was dissolved on December 31, 1969 and its area was completely incorporated into the city of Gütersloh.
