Amy Bloom (born June 18, 1953 ) is an American writer.

Life

Amy Bloom studied theater and political science at Wesleyan University (BA) and social work at Smith College (Master of Social Work). She practiced as a psychotherapist .

Bloom writes stories that have appeared in magazines such as The New Yorker , The New York Times Magazine , The Atlantic Monthly , Vogue , Slate , and Salon.com . Her short stories have been included in various anthologies. It won the National Magazine Award , and books were nominated for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award . Bloom was Writer in Residence at Yale University and 2010 Wesleyan University .

In 2007 Bloom produced the seven-part television program State of Mind with actress Lili Taylor , in which the work of psychotherapists was thematized.

Bloom has three children from their first marriage and lives in Connecticut .
