At the copper smelter was a local situation in the west of the living quarters Nützenberg the Bergisch city of Wuppertal , the district Elberfeld . The majority of the population no longer has the name An der Kupferhütte as an independent name for this location.

Location and description

The location is at an altitude of 151  m above sea level. NHN in the valley of the Wupper at the foot of the Nützenberg on today's federal road 7 between Stockmannsmühle and Vogelsaue . Today, the location is part of the continuous residential and commercial development in the vicinity of the Elberfeld Bayer factory .

Etymology and history

In the local area there was a smelter for copper ore. The copper ore was mined in tunnels that were driven into the mountain in the locality and melted into so-called "cakes" in the copper works. The copper recovered was processed in the copper hammer at Blombach , among other things . The mining mentioned in 1613 is said to have been discontinued quickly and not very productively.

In 1815/16 the place had 43 inhabitants. In 1832, An der Kupferhütte belonged to the Pickartsberger Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the town of Elberfeld . The place, categorized as individual houses according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had two residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 17 residents lived in the village, five of them Catholic and twelve Protestant.
