Ana Gomes
Ana Maria Rosa Martins Gomes (born February 9, 1954 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese diplomat and politician of the Partido Socialista (PS).
Life
Gomes studied law at the University of Lisbon and worked in the foreign service from 1980. From 1982 to 1986 she was diplomatic advisor to the President of the Republic. She also worked in Portugal's missions to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and the embassies in Tokyo and London . From January 30, 1999, she was the Portuguese representative in Jakarta , and from 2000 also officially as the Portuguese ambassador to Indonesia , after the two countries had resumed diplomatic relations. Gomes played an important role in the transfer of the Indonesian- occupied former Portuguese colony of East Timor into UN administration . Gomes' service in Jakarta ended in 2003.
Since 2000 Gomes was a member of the Partido Socialista. From 2004 to 2019 Gomes was a member of the European Parliament .
