Anampses is a genus of small Junker Wrasse (Julidinae). All 12 species live in the tropical areas of the Indo-Pacific . The fish migrate through the coral reefs in small groups, constantly on the lookout for small edible animals. The name roughly means "not dusted" (ancient Greek: an- "not", ana "up-", psan "to sweep, clean": psas, Latinized as -pses , is the aorist participle ).

features

Anampses species show pronounced sexual dimorphism , i.e. H. Females and males look completely different. Usually both sexes have a dot pattern, which is why they are referred to in German as pearl junkers. They become 12 to 42 centimeters long. The juvenile fish also differ greatly from the sexually mature: they show eye spots on the ends of the dorsal and anal fin . Anampses species each have a pair of long teeth protruding slightly from the mouth in the upper and lower jaw . The head is scaly, the edge of the gill cover is smooth, the side line is completely but abruptly curved.
