Act

In his research, Stefanowitsch deals with grammatical constructions and conceptual metaphors . His focus is on corpus linguistics .

Outside the specialist audience, Stefanowitsch became known as the operator of the Bremer Sprachblog , which was originally launched as a contribution to the Year of Humanities 2007 and maintained until 2010 , in which he prepared linguistic topics in a generally understandable manner and was particularly skeptical about language criticism (such as the now discontinued action Lebendiges Deutsch ) argued. From January 2010 to November 2012 he continued the work started in the Bremer Sprachblog in the Scilogs portal operated by Spektrum der Wissenschaft Verlagsgesellschaft under the title Sprachlog . On November 28, 2012, an independent blog under the title Sprachlog went online, on which two other linguists in addition to Stefanowitsch publish.

Stefanowitsch is also the founder of the “ Anglicism of the Year ” initiative, founded in 2010, and chairman of the jury.

In 2018 Stefanowitsch published his polemic A Question of Morality on the subject of politically correct use of language and has since been a frequent speaker and interview guest on this topic.
