Anatoly Nikolayevich Amelin

Anatoly Nikolajewitsch Amelin ( Russian Анатолий Николаевич Амелин ; born June 8, 1946 ) is a former Russian table tennis player . He had his best time in the 1960s, when he reached the final in doubles at a world championship .

Career

Amelin's first success was the nomination for the European Youth Championships in Bled in 1962, where he finished second in the singles behind Dorin Giurgiucă and won the title with the Russian team.

From 1963 to 1970 he took part in three European championships and four world championships . At all European championships he reached the semifinals in at least two disciplines: 1966 in singles and doubles with Stanislaw Gomoskow , 1968 in doubles with Gomoskow and mixed with Swetlana Grinberg and 1970 in doubles with Gomoskow and mixed with Grinberg. He also finished second with the Russian team in 1966 and 1968.

At the 1967 World Cup he was runner-up in doubles. With Stanislaw Gomoskow he lost the final against the Swedes Hans Alsér / Kjell Johansson . Mixed with Soja Rudnowa , he reached the semifinals. In 1969 he failed with the same doubles partner in the semifinals.

In 1996, 2002, 2004 and 2006 he was senior world champion in doubles with Dragutin Šurbek , and in 1998 with Herbert Neubauer .

Private

In the mid-1960s he married the Lithuanian table tennis player Laima Balaišytė (* 1948). He has a daughter with her.
