Anatoli Wassiljewitsch Iwanow ( Russian Анатолий Васильевич Иванов ; born June 26, 1934 in Leningrad ; † April 2, 2012 in Vienna ) was a Russian solo timpanist , composer , conductor and folk artist of Russia .

He was chairman of the Russian Drummers Association (Russian Российская Ассоциация исполнителей на ударных инструментах), member of the Percussive Arts Society and member of the Russian Authors' Society . He taught at the NA Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg and was one of the most famous teachers of the Russian drum school.

Life

Ivanov studied piano and drums at the Leningrad Conservatory . In 1957 he passed the exam with Alexei Ivanovich Sobolew (Russian Соболев, Алексей Иванович) and Vasily Evseewitsch Osadtschuk (Russian Осадчук, Васи́лий Евсеевич).

From 1952 he worked in the Russian State Folk Orchestra and in the jazz orchestra. From 1964 he worked as principal percussionist and section leader of the percussion instruments in the orchestra of the Leningrad Philharmonic under the direction of Yevgeny Maravinsky and Yuri Temirkanov .

In the 1960s, he developed an organization program for percussion - Ensemble . In 1996 he wrote a methodical work "Играйте в ансамбле ударных инструментов!" ( German : "Play in the ensemble of percussion instruments!" ). In 1989 he founded the drum ensemble "Виват, ударные!", Which was successful in the 1990s with a large number of concerts with Ivanov's own compositions and with his arrangements of classical music.

He died on April 2, 2012 in Vienna . On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of his death, a memorial concert took place on April 12, 2016 in the Mariinsky Theater .

Works

His works include pieces of music for Russian folk orchestra, jazz orchestra, percussion ensemble, for vibraphone , xylophone , celesta , flute , piano with orchestra , timpani , tuba ensemble, seven pieces of music for timpani with piano, etc. One of his most important works is the Transcription of the " Children's Album " by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for percussion ensemble, published in 1995.
