Anders Ek, 1950

Anders Ek (born April 7, 1916 in Gothenburg , † November 17, 1979 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish theater and film actor .

Life

Ek was born the son of a professor of history and a poet. From 1938 to 1941 he studied at the drama school of the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm , where he also appeared after completing his studies. He had other engagements at the city theaters in Malmö and Gothenburg and at the Intimate Theater in Stockholm. He played his first film roles as early as the early 1940s. In 1943 he appeared for the first time in a theater production by Ingmar Bergman , for which he also appeared in front of the camera in four films. In 1960 Ek moved to the newly opened Stockholm City Theater, but returned to the Royal Dramatic Theater in the mid-1960s, where he stayed until shortly before his death. In 1976 he took part in Bergman's production of August Strindberg's Dance of Death . In the same year he made his last film appearance.

Ek was married to the dancer, choreographer and director Birgit Cullberg from 1942 to 1949 and is the father of the dancer and choreographer Mats Ek , the dancer Niklas and the actress Malin Ek .
