André Cruz (born September 20, 1968 in Piracicaba , State of São Paulo , Brazil ), full name André Alves da Cruz , is a former Brazilian football player .

The central defender moved to Europe in the summer of 1990 after a strong season with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and joined the Belgian first division club Standard Liège . After four strong years, he moved to Serie A at SSC Napoli and aroused the interest of AC Milan , but could not prevail there. After brief interludes at AC Turin and again at Standard Liège, he played for three years in the jersey of Sporting Lisbon . In the Portuguese capital he was twice champion and won the cup once. He ended his career in Brazil in 2004.

Between 1988 and 1998 Cruz played 31 international matches for the national team . However, he could not prevail against the competition in the central defensive position and was not a regular regular player. In 1998 he took part in the World Cup in France , but was not used. He then resigned from the Seleção.
