life and work
André Favory briefly studied at the Académie Julian with Marcel Baschet and Henri Royer , where he made the acquaintance of Jean Metzinger , André Lhote and Marie Laurencin . During this time, Cubism and Albert Gleizes influenced his earlier work. In World War I served Favory at the front and later returned to Paris. In 1920 André Favory traveled to Brussels and was inspired by paintings by Rubens to create new designs that he combined with the landscape tradition of Paul Cézanne . In later years he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Tuileries (1923-1924), the Salon des Indépendants (1921-1927) and the Salon d'Automne (1921-1923). The art critic Louis Vauxcelles described him as an extremely important artist and a master of his time. In 1932 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor . In 1932 André Favory had to give up painting because of a debilitating illness and died five years later.
