André Heinze (born March 31, 1961 in Berlin ; † March 1, 2013 ) was a Baptist clergyman and professor of the New Testament at the Theological Seminary of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches in Wustermark-Elstal .

Life

André Heinze studied Protestant theology at the universities of Marburg (1983–1986) and Göttingen (1986–1991). A so-called candidate year then took him to the theological seminar of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches, which at that time had its seat in Hamburg-Horn . From 1992 he completed a vicariate in the Evangelical Free Church Community in Göttingen. In 1996 he received official recognition as a minister of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches (BEFG) and received his doctorate at Georg Strecker at Göttingen University for doctorate in theology . The subject of his dissertation was: The Apocalypse of John and the Johannine Scriptures. Research and historical studies . In the same year he accepted the appointment of the Evangelical Free Church in Ludwigshafen and became its parish pastor for six years.

In 2002 the BEFG summoned André Heinze to the Elstal Theological Seminary to succeed the retired New Testament scholar Wiard Popkes . From 2006 Heinze was Vice Rector of the seminar. He gave up this position due to a serious illness at the end of the winter semester 2012/13. His designated successor in this office is Ralf Dziewas .

Focus of work

André Heinze's theological interest was primarily in the development of early Christian theology . Here he dealt in particular with the Johannine literature and Paul research . He also dealt with hermeneutic questions. He was a member of the following theological research communities: Society of Biblical Literature , Rudolf Bultmann Society for Hermeneutic Theology , Society for Evangelical Theology .

Theological adult education was also a major concern of his, which among other things led to the fact that from 1997 onwards he devoted part of his working time to the conceptual and practical expansion of the basic theological course of the Association of Evangelical Free Churches . In this context he was also active as a guest teacher at the Theological Institute of the Russian Baptists between 1996 and 1999 .

In addition to his teaching and research activities, André Heinze, in his capacity as Vice Rector, also took on the lead in preparing the accreditation process that the Elstal Theological Seminar had to face . This procedure came to a preliminary conclusion in 2007, when the Elstaler Seminar was recognized as a university of applied sciences by the responsible science council (initially limited to five years) . Heinze was also significantly involved in the preparations for the reaccreditation process, which was successfully completed at the end of 2012.
