André Schroeder
André Schroeder (born April 22, 1918 in Basel ; † May 7, 2004 in Bern ), reformed , entitled to live in Basel and Hölstein , was a Swiss dentist and university professor .
Life
André Schroeder, son of a pharmacist and manufacturer Carl August Schroeder and from Colmar -born Louise Adèle born Baer, took to filed Matura studying dentistry at the University of Basel in 1944 he graduated from the State Examination , 1945 took place its graduation to the Dr. med. dent. André Schroeder immediately took up an assistant position at the Dental Institute of the University of Basel, in 1948 he opened his own practice, and in 1951 he was appointed head of the People's Dental Clinic in Basel.
In 1957, Schroeder completed his habilitation as a private lecturer in dentistry in Basel, and in 1959 he accepted an extraordinary professorship for conservative dentistry at the University of Bern . In 1966 he took over the editing of the German-language part of the Swiss Monthly for Dentistry from Walter Hess . In 1969 he was the first dentist to be promoted to full professor at a Swiss university. Schroeder, who also served as the first dentist dean of the medical faculty from 1971 to 1973 and as rector in the academic year 1979/80 , retired in 1984 . From his first marriage to Heidy, born Buss (died 1984), 2 daughters emerged: Elisabeth Fricker Meyer, dental hygienist, and Ursula von Mandach-Schroeder, Prof. Dr. pharm. at the University Hospital Zurich and founder of the Swiss Working Group for Perinatal Pharmacology , SAPP. in his second marriage he was married to Simone Friedli nee Strebel. He died in 2004 at the age of 86 in Bern.
André Schroeder, who developed an internationally recognized implant system, initiated the International Team for Oral Implantology (ITI) in 1980 , of which he was President until 1992. In his honor, the ITI launched the Andre Schroeder Research Prize, endowed with 20,000 Swiss francs, which is awarded annually to independent scientists for advances in dental research and development, with the aim of discovering new scientific findings in dental implantology, oral tissue regeneration and to promote related areas.
