The Andrau Airpark was a public airport in the Alief neighborhood of Houston , in the US state of Texas . The airport is southwest of the intersection of Old Westheimer Road and Richmond Avenue. The airport has been closed since 1998 and the site is now built on with a residential area and golf course.

history

It is no longer possible to determine exactly when the airport started operations. Presumably it was built on a piece of empty prairie after World War II . The oldest known photo of the site is dated 1953.

The airport was used for general aviation for the western part of Houston. However, a Douglas DC-3 and a Douglas A-26C Invader are known to land here. The airport had two runways, the longest of which was approximately 1,450 m long. There was also a lake for landings by seaplanes on the eastern edge of the site.

The airport was bought on December 23, 1998 by the Houston real estate company Camden for 53 million US dollars from the operator Andrau Airpark, Inc. and then closed. The airport was then quickly demolished and the residential area and golf course were built.
