Since the early 1980s, Sunder-Plassmann has been primarily concerned with the medium of photography, analog and digital film and synaesthetic installations. The preoccupation with the sculptural potency of light plays just as important a role as the development of space as an aesthetic and sensitive category and the constant involvement of the viewer as an elementary part of her work. In this context she also dealt with the medium of dance, which she explored in some video works. In 1994 she founded the art project “Browsing Beauty” with the Canadian artist Sigi Torinus, in which both artistically dealt with the phenomenon of the “beautiful”. In the process, numerous synaesthetic installations were created in San Francisco, Sidney, Berlin and Toronto, in which the two artists repeatedly worked with sound composers. In the last few years Sunder-Plassmann has increasingly occupied herself with photography and, in doing so, artistically investigates the phenomenon of the moving and still image, in which she repeatedly switches between digital and analog media or combines them. Autobiographical subjects play a role as well as the targeted examination of the aesthetic quality of nature and architecture.

Her artistic work can be found in several public collections, including the Artothek of the New Berlin Art Association , the photographic collection of the Berlinische Galerie and the collection of the Kube Art Museum, Ålesund (Norway).
