Andreas Franchi

Andreas Franchi (* 1335 , in Pistoia , Italy ; † May 26, 1401 ibid) was a Dominican and Italian bishop .

Life

Andreas Franchi came from the Tuscan noble family of Franchi-Boccagni and joined the Dominican Order in his hometown of Pistoia at the age of 14 . After a plague epidemic , he rebuilt religious life. In 1371 he became prior in Pistoia , then in Lucca and Orvieto . He gained an excellent reputation as a preacher and teacher. In 1377 he was appointed Bishop of Pistoia and distinguished himself in this office through piety and charity. In 1400 he asked for release from the episcopate and returned to his monastery in Pistoia. Pope Benedict XV beatified him in 1921 . The feast day of the Blessed is on May 26th, in the Dominican Order on May 27th.
