Andreas Heil

Andreas Heil (* 1969 in Quakenbrück ) is a German classical philologist . He is university professor for Latin studies at the University of Vienna .

Life

After graduating from high school at Quakenbrücker Artland-Gymnasium, Andreas Heil studied classical philology and philosophy at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . The German Dante Society awarded him a prize in 2001 for the essay Dante's Amazement and Virgil's Shame . In the winter semester 2001/2002, he was with a thesis on Virgil and Dante doctorate .

From 2001 to 2005 he worked at the Collaborative Research Center 537 Institutionality and Historicity at the Technical University of Dresden , then until 2011 at the Institute for Classical Philology there. After completing his habilitation at the University of Dresden in 2011 with a thesis on Seneca's tragedies, he was appointed private lecturer . From 2011 to 2013 he worked as a collaborator at the Collaborative Research Center 804 Transcendence and Community spirit at the TU Dresden.

He held several professorships: at the TU Dresden (summer semester 2012, summer semester 2013 to summer semester 2014), at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (winter semester 2012/13) and at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (winter semester 2016/17 ). From 2014 to 2016 he was Professor of Classical Philology (Latin) at the University of Regensburg . In September 2017 he was appointed professor for Classical Philology (Latin Studies) at the University of Vienna , where he works at the Institute for Classical Philology, Middle and New Latin .
