Andreas Lehne (* 1951 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian art historian and monument conservator .

life and career

Andreas Lehne was born in Innsbruck in 1951, but soon came to Vienna , where he attended the Schottengymnasium . After graduating there, he studied art history and classical archeology at the University of Vienna and worked at the Austrian Federal Monuments Office from 1977 to 2016 , where he most recently headed the department for inventory and monument research. After joining the Federal Monuments Office on July 6, 1977, he worked at the State Conservatory for Vienna in the early years and switched to the Department of Monument Research on January 28, 1983. In 1996 he took over the management of the Department of Monument Register, which in 2003 became the Department of Inventory and Monument Research. On July 31, 2016, Andreas Lehne was retired and replaced by his previous deputy Paul Mahringer (* 1979) as head of the department.

Lehne mainly publishes on the art and architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as on the history and theory of monument preservation. During his active time he also held teaching positions at the Technical University of Vienna and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna .
