Bernd Euler-Rolle (born November 12, 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian and monument conservator .

Life

Euler-Rolle studied art history at the University of Vienna and graduated in 1983 with a dissertation on the subject of the form and content of complete ecclesiastical furnishings from the Austrian Baroque up to 1720/30 . Since 1979 he has been an employee of the Federal Monuments Office, first in the art topographical inventory in Lower Austria and Salzburg, from 1984 in the building and art monument maintenance at the State Conservatory for Upper Austria. Between 1991 and 2009, as the deputy of the state curator for Upper Austria, he was responsible for major projects in the state, including major interior restorations such as those in the former collegiate churches of Garsten and Mondsee Monastery as well as the Aurolzmünster baroque castle , and also for the entire spectrum of monument preservation as in the important ones Monument places Steyr , Wels or Gmunden .

Since 2009 he has been head of the Department for Conservation and Restoration at the Federal Monuments Office in Vienna and, from 2012, Director of the Federal Monuments Office, which has the leading scientific and technical function in Austrian monument preservation. At the University of Vienna and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , he teaches monument conservation. He is a member of the Working Group for Theory and Teaching of Monument Preservation and of ICOMOS (International Council for Monument Preservation).

From August to December 2018 he was the interim president of the Federal Monuments Office as the successor to Barbara Neubauer .
