Andreas Leykam
Andreas Leykam (* presumably 1752 in Mainz ; † November 12, 1826 in Graz ) was a printer and publisher .
Leykam had learned the printing trade from Thomas von Trattner in Vienna . In 1776 he came to Graz, where he initially worked as an assistant in the Widmanstetter printing company before setting up his own printing company in 1781. He was given permission for this on September 30, 1781 by Emperor Joseph II , which made the Widmanstetter printing monopoly obsolete. In 1793 he acquired the Leuzendorfer paper mill, which had been in existence since 1517, and expanded the company into the largest paper mill in the Habsburg monarchy . In addition, Leykam expanded his business through further acquisitions, for example in 1806 he took over the Widmanstetter printing house. The company still exists today in the form of Leykam Medien AG . The paper division, separated in 1883, has belonged to Sappi since 1997 .
