Andreas Michalakopoulos
Andreas Michalakopoulos ( Greek Ανδρέας Μιχαλακόπουλος , * 1875 or 1876 in Patras ; † March 7, 1938 in Athens ) was a Greek politician and former prime minister .
Education
After finishing school, he began military training at the military academy, which he graduated as the best in his year. He also holds a degree in law , he by a grant from the death of his father I. King George was able to close. He later completed postgraduate studies at universities in France , Germany and Athens .
Political career
Michalakopoulos was a high-ranking member of the Liberal Party (Komma Fileleftheron) and for twenty years a close ally of its founder Eleftherios Venizelos . His political career began in 1911 with his election to the National Assembly (Voulí ton Ellínon) .
In 1912 he was appointed Minister of Economics. He held this office until 1916 with brief interruptions in the cabinets of Venizelos and Alexandros Zaimis . In their cabinets he was also Minister of Agriculture from 1917 to 1918 and 1920 and Minister of Defense in 1918.
In 1924 he founded the party of the conservative liberals (Syntiritiko Demokratieikon Komma), which could only win a few parliamentary seats in the following elections. From October 7, 1924 to June 26, 1925 he was Prime Minister and Foreign Minister himself. In this office he was succeeded by General Theodoros Pangalos , who had recently seized power.
In the following years he was foreign minister four times in the cabinets of Zaimis (1926 to 1928) and Venizelos (1929 to 1932, 1932 and 1933). In this role he was a member of the Greek delegation in the negotiations for the Treaty of Sèvres (1920) and the Treaty of Lausanne (1923). Later on, alongside Venizelos, on October 30, 1930, he was a co-signer of the Ankara Treaty , the first friendship agreement after the end of the Greco-Turkish War from 1919 to 1922 .
During the dictatorship of General Ioannis Metaxas , he had been under house arrest since 1936 and was also banned from political activity.
