Andreas Range (Abbot)
Andreas Range OCist (born June 17, 1947 in Cologne as Hans Range ) is abbot of the Cistercian Abbey of Marienstatt . He took over from Thomas Denter OCist on February 25, 2006 and is thus the 52nd Abbot of Marienstatt.
Life
Hans Range grew up in Cologne and entered the Cistercian order in 1966 after graduating from high school in Marienstatt and was given the name of the order Andreas . He had already got to know the Marienstatt Monastery as a schoolboy because he has relatives in the Westerwald . After the novitiate in Marienstatt, he studied philosophy at the Jesuit University St. Georgen in Frankfurt am Main from 1967 to 1969 and theology at the Papal Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome from 1969 to 1973 , where he obtained a licentiate (Lic. Theol.) . In 1973 he was ordained a priest . From 1973 to 1979 he studied German and Middle Latin in Cologne. During this time he also gained his first experience in pastoral care .
In addition to his monastic services, Range worked between 1981 and 2006 as a teacher at the private grammar school Marienstatt , which is run by the Marienstatt Abbey. He taught religion, German and Italian. In 1995 he succeeded Gabriel Hammer OCist as headmaster and was headmaster of the grammar school until July 2006.
On February 25, 2006 Range was elected 52nd Abbot of Marienstatt. The Abtsbenediktion took place on Easter Monday in Marienstatt by the Abbot General of the Cistercian Order, Maurus Esteva . With the election as abbot, Range gave up the office of headmaster. Abbot Andreas is the successor of Thomas Denter , who resigned on February 6, 2006 according to the statutes of the Mehrerau Congregation because he had reached the age limit of 70 years. Since the age limit for abbots in the Mehrerau Congregation has been adjusted to that of the diocesan bishops and is now 75 years, Range's term of office is expected to end in 2022.
Abbot Andreas Range is used as a corporate donor in the Diocese of Limburg .
Private
Range is considered a connoisseur of contemporary art. Many works by the sculptor and painter Erwin Wortelkamp , with whom Range is friends, can be found in the monastery or school building.
