Andreas Strodl (born October 26, 1987 ) is a former German ski racer . He specialized in the downhill and super-G disciplines. Because of a protracted knee injury, Strodl had to end his career at the age of 26 in early 2014.

Career

Strodl is the younger brother of the former ski racer Peter Strodl . At the age of 15 he contested his first FIS race in December 2002 . His best result at the Junior World Championships was a 16th place in the Super-G in Altenmarkt in 2007 . His debut in the European Cup at the beginning of February 2007 was followed by his first start in the World Cup three weeks later in the double downhill run in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In December 2007 he got his first World Cup points with 25th place on the descent from Val Gardena . In the years to come he was able to finish in the top 30 in the World Cup a few times, but without achieving his goal of advancing to the top of the world. The 2009 World Cup in Val-d'Isère came to an end for him after a fall in the Super-G in which he suffered injuries to his right knee and had to take a short break. For the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver , he could not qualify.

On November 28, 2010, Strodl tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a fall in the Super-G of Lake Louise , which meant the season for Strodl. He was also absent from his home World Cup in February 2011. Due to another knee operation in December 2011, Strodl missed the entire 2011/2012 World Cup season, and due to persistent knee problems he was unable to contest the 2012/2013 World Cup season. It was not until the summer of 2013 that Strodl trained again without pain and competed in ski races again. He achieved a podium place in the South American Cup and in December at the Nor-Am Cup , but in the World Cup he did not get past 60th place in the downhill from Val Gardena. After the complaints with his right knee got worse again, Andreas Strodl decided in January 2014 to finally retire as a racer.
