Andreas Thom born as Rudolf Csmarich (born May 11, 1884 in Vienna ; † June 25, 1943 in Mooskirchen , Styria ) was an Austrian writer and elementary school teacher.

life and work

Andreas Thom, born in 1884 as Rudolf Csmarich in Vienna, worked as a primary school teacher in Vienna from 1903 to 1934. Between 1918 and 1923, Thoms was also editor at Ed. Strache active. He belonged to the inner circle of the Austrian painter and writer Albert Paris Gütersloh and also cultivated friendships with the painters Anton Faistauer and Egon Schiele and the writer Ferdinand Bruckner .

A first story under the title Lindeleid by Andreas Thom was published in 1913 by the German publisher Rütten & Loening . He celebrated his breakthrough as a writer with the novel Ambros Maria Baal, published by Die Wende in Berlin in 1918 . Numerous other novels followed in the 1920s and 1930s, such as Rufus Remian , published by Rowohlt Verlag , Noch plays a child , Triumph der Liebe , The New Year's Eve or The Unequal Beloved by Paul Zsolnay Verlag, as well as some plays.

Andreas Thom died in Styria in June 1943.
