Andreas Ullrich

Andreas Ullrich (* 20th century ) is an Austrian scientist and entrepreneur and holder of the Wilhelm Exner Medal .

Life

Ullrich earned a degree in electrical engineering at the Technical University of Vienna and received his doctorate with the thesis "High-resolution optical Doppler radar" for Dr. techn. . From 1984 to 1991 he worked as an assistant professor at the Institute for Telecommunications and High Frequency Technology at the Vienna University of Technology, and from 2001 he taught there as a lecturer in radar technology .

From 1991 Ullrich worked in various positions at Riegl Laser Measurement Systems GmbH , located in Horn (Lower Austria) . He transformed the company from a device manufacturer to a system provider in the laser sector . In addition, he developed high-tech applications that are used in space or in radar speed monitoring.

In 1998, Ullrich launched laser scanners , three-dimensional scanning systems, the possible applications of which are widely spread. They can be used in the fields of surveying technology , architecture , monument protection and archeology as well as in industrial plant construction. In 2003 he presented the space-compatible laser radar, which is used for the automatic docking of the European and Japanese supply modules to the international space station ISS .

On November 28, 2004, Ullrich received the highest Austrian honor for technology transfer , the Wilhelm Exner Medal, for his achievements in research and development . Ullrich and the also honored Israeli biochemist Meir Wilchek were introduced to the then Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer during a reception in the presidential office on the same day .

Ullrich has been Technical Director and Managing Director of Riegl Laser Measurement Systems GmbH since 2006 . He represents the company at national and international specialist events and gives specialist lectures, for example at the International Lidar Mapping Forum in Washington in January 2019 . The database of the academic network ResearchGate lists 44 publications by Ullrich (as of 2019).
