Andreas Wagener (born June 17, 1967 in Siegen ; † January 29, 2019 in Hanover ) was a German economist , finance and social scientist .

Life

Andreas Wagener, son of Dieter and Marianne Wagener's marriage, studied economics at the University of Siegen . In 1996 he was there with the work of international tax competition with capital taxes as a doctor of political science and economics to Dr. rer. pole. PhD . From 1992 to 1996 he was a research assistant at the University of Siegen and the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . From 1996 to 2003 he worked as a research assistant and later as a private lecturer in Siegen; From 1999 to 2001 Wagener was a fellow of the German Research Foundation at CESifo in Munich and CEBR Copenhagen. In 2002 he completed his habilitation with the work Old-Age Provisions under Uncertainty at the Siegen University and received the venia legendi in economics.

After 2003 he was professor of economics, especially finance, at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Vienna . He was also a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University Bangkok and the Diplomatic Academy Vienna. From 2006 until his death in 2019, he was full professor of economics with a focus on social policy at the University of Hanover and director of the Institute for Political Science and director of the Leibniz Research Center for Science and Society (LCSS). From 2011 to 2013 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Hanover. Wagener held a research professorship at the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich.

Andreas Wagener's research focus was on social security systems and old-age security as well as the theory of the welfare state on (international) taxation and fiscal federalism for the provision of public goods. He has published numerous articles in refereed international journals as well as articles in other journals and edited volumes.
