Andreas von Gunesch

Andreas Friedrich (knight of) Gunesch (born March 6, 1799 in Mediasch , † August 7, 1875 in Neuwaldegg ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian . From 1862 until his death he was superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna .

Life

Andreas Gunesch was born into a family of Transylvanian Saxons and lost his parents at an early age. In 1828 he worked for a short time as the Protestant pastor of Trebesing in Carinthia . He then worked as a vicar and catechist in the Lutheran City Church in Vienna , where he finally worked as a pastor from 1829 until his death. From 1834 he was a member of the church leadership of the Evangelical Church AB , from 1862 as the Viennese superintendent, succeeding Ernst Pauer . He was married to a daughter of the inventor Paul Traugott Meißner . His daughter Adele von Gunesch founded the Gunesch Institute in 1871 , one of the most prestigious boarding schools in Vienna before the First World War .

Andreas von Gunesch is buried in the Matzleinsdorf Evangelical Cemetery (crypt 9) in Vienna.
