Andrew Haigh
Andrew Haigh (born March 7, 1973 in Harrogate , United Kingdom ) is a British film director , screenwriter and film producer .
Career
Haigh began his work in the film business as a film editor before making his debut as a screenwriter and director in 2003 with his first short film Oil . Three other short films followed, including Five Miles Out (2008), which was shown in the Generation section at the 2009 Berlinale .
Haigh's first feature film was the low-budget production Greek Pete (2009), with a budget of less than 10,000 British pound was filmed. The film shows the life of male prostitutes , for which Haigh collected documentary film material over a period of one year, which he incorporated into the fictional narrative of the film.
Weekend , Haigh's second feature film, was shot in Nottingham and is about the romantic relationship between two men (played by Tom Cullen and Chris New ) that begins with a one-night stand. The film premiered in 2011 at the SXSW film festival in the US state of Texas , where it won the Emerging Visions Audience Award . 20 other awards followed, including the MovieZone Award in Rotterdam , the Grand Jury Prize at the Outfest Festival, two prizes at the British Independent Film Awards , the London Critics Circle Award and the award for Best Film 2011 at the Lesbian and Gay Film Days Hamburg .
Haigh's third feature film 45 Years ran in the competition at the Berlinale 2015 . The film tells of a couple, played by Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay , whose marriage slips when they hear news of an old love. Both Rampling and Courtenay were awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Festival .
Haigh also worked as a screenwriter and director for the HBO series Looking from 2014.
In 2017 he received an invitation to compete at the 74th Venice Film Festival for his feature film Lean on Pete . Haighs is married to the writer Andy Morwood.
