Andrew Morton (1989)

Andrew Morton (* 1953 in Dewsbury , West Yorkshire ) is a British journalist and author .

Life

Morton attended school in Leeds and studied history at the University of Sussex . He then trained with various magazines in the Mirror Group and, after completing the training program, worked as a newspaper journalist in Manchester and from 1981 in London . Since 1982 he has worked as a royal court reporter for the British tabloids (including the Daily Mail , News of the World and Daily Star ); from 1983 he also published various books on this subject. In 1988 he left Fleet Street and started working as a freelance book author.

His biography of Diana, Princess of Wales , published in 1992, became a worldwide bestseller (including number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list ), although he was the sources for many details about Diana's unhappy marriage, Charles' affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, and Diana's bulimia not revealed. It was only after Diana's death in 1997 that Morton announced that she was the main source for his biography herself and that she had also edited the manuscript herself. For his book, he was the 1992 London Press Club with the Scoop of the Year and 1993 at the British Book Awards with the award Author of the Year Award.

His 1999 biography of the intern Monica Lewinsky , who became world-famous through the Lewinsky affair , also became a number 1 bestseller. He had less success in 2001 with his unauthorized biography of Madonna .

Morton lives in London.
