Andrieus Aristieus Jones (born May 16, 1862 in Union City , Obion County , Tennessee , † December 20, 1927 in Washington DC ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of New Mexico in the US Senate .

After attending schools near his hometown, Andrieus Jones switched to Bethel College in McKenzie . In 1885 he graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana and began working as a teacher in his home state. In the same year he moved to Las Vegas in the New Mexico Territory , where he was the school principal until 1887. During this time he studied law so that he was admitted to the bar in 1888 and worked as a lawyer in Las Vegas.

In 1893 Jones became chairman of the New Mexico Bar Association . In that year he was also elected mayor of Las Vegas, which he remained until 1894. Until 1898 he then held the office of district attorney.

After the turn of the century, Jones became increasingly active in politics. From 1908 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee , in which he remained until 1922. He ran for the first time in 1912 for the US Senate, but was defeated in the election. From 1913 to 1916 he served as Assistant Secretary of the Interior in the government of President Woodrow Wilson . He resigned when he was elected to the Senate on his second attempt. After the re-election in 1922, a second term followed, but Andrieus Jones did not live to see the end of it. He died in Washington in late 1927 and was buried in Las Vegas.
