Andrij Iwanowytsch Lysohub ( Ukrainian Андрій Іванович Лизогуб , Russian Андрей Иванович Лизогуб Andrei Ivanovich Lisogub * 16th June 1804 in Burkiwka , Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 1864 in Velyki Sorochyntsi , Poltava Governorate , Russian Empire) was a Ukrainian landowner and confidant and Supporter of Taras Shevchenko from the noble family Lysohub .

Life

Andrij Lysohub was born in the village of Burkivka ( Бурківка ) in what is now Chernihiv Oblast . He was the owner of the village of Sedniv (now an urban-type settlement ) and a representative of liberal, modern views such as the liberation of the rural population from serfdom . At the age of 25 he left his military service and settled permanently in Sednew. He was visited there in the autumn of 1846 and 1847 by the Ukrainian painter and poet Taras Shevchenko, who was given a separate outbuilding and a well-equipped workshop on the Lysohub estate, in which he painted and wrote. Andrij Lysohub belonged to a small group of people who corresponded with Shevchenko in exile and provided him with material support. Lysohub worked in 1850 on the government to ease Shevchenko's prison conditions. He died in Velyki Sorochyntsi in 1864.

Andrij Lysohub was the brother of the general, composer and pianist Oleksandr Lysohub and the philanthropist, cellist and colonel Illja Lysohub, and the father of the future Ukrainian Prime Minister Fedir Lysohub and the later executed revolutionary Dmytro Lysohub .
