Illja Lysohub
Illja Iwanowytsch Lysohub ( Ukrainian Ілля Іванович Лизогуб , Russian Илья Иванович Лизогуб Ilya Ivanovich Lisogub ; born October 12, jul. / 23. October 1787 greg. In Kulykivka , Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 1867 in Chernigov , Chernigov Governorate, Russian Empire) was a Ukrainian philanthropist , composer , cellist and pianist , colonel in the Imperial Russian Army and friend and supporter of the Ukrainian painter and poet Taras Shevchenko from the noble family Lysohub .
Life
Illja Lysohub came as a son of nobility Marshal of the Chernigov Governorate Ivan Lysohub ( Іван Якович Лизогуб ; 1761-1819) in the village Kulykivka in Rajon Horodnia today Oblast Chernihiv born.
In 1807 he joined as a cadet in the Life Guards -Jägerregiment the Russian army and was in the following year to second lieutenant promoted. In 1809 he came to a cuirassier regiment with which he was used in the Austrian campaign in the same year and in the campaign against Napoleon in 1812 . After participating in the Battle of Borodino , in which the regiment repeatedly attacked the French cavalry , he was awarded a gold sword. In 1812 he was appointed as Cornet aide of his brother, the commander of the 2nd Cavalry Division (as part of the second Kürassierbrigade the second Kürassierdivision of the 8th Corps of the 2nd Western Army) Colonel Andrei Gudovich ( Андрей Иванович Гудович 1782-1867) and accompanied him, after he was wounded, to his recovery in the city of Vladimir .
During the Sixth Coalition War he received after the Battle of Bautzen the St. Vladimir Order of 4th grade and after the Battle of Leipzig the Order of St. Anne 4th class. After the Battle of Leipzig in 1814 he was briefly an orderly officer with Dmitri Golitzyn and then with Crown Prince Eugene of Württemberg . In January 1816 he became lieutenant of the cavaliers and in 1818 he was promoted to captain . The following year he became an aide to General Nikolai Repnin-Volkonsky .
In 1821 he retired as a colonel for “family reasons” and settled in his Sedniv estate in the Chernigov governorate. Taras Shevchenko was a guest there in the autumn of 1846 and 1847. He was given a separate outbuilding and a well-equipped workshop on the Lysohub estate, in which he painted landscapes and worked on poetic works. The friendship remained intact even during Shevchenko's exile, during which time they corresponded with each other (the letters have not survived) and Illja Lysohub provided him with material and moral support. Furthermore, Lysohub sat down with the governor of the Orenburg governorate Vasily Perovsky ( Василий Алексеевич Перовский ), for relief of Shevchenko's detention conditions.
He belonged to the Masonic Lodge of the "United Slavs" in Kiev and was a private painter, cellist, pianist and composer.

family
Illja Lysohub was the brother of the general, composer and pianist Oleksandr Lysohub and the liberal landowner Andrij Lysohub and uncle of the future Ukrainian government Fedir Lysohub and later executed revolutionary Dmytro Lysohub . He was married to Elisabeth, the daughter of Ivan Wassiljewitsch Gudowitsch . The marriage remained childless.
