Andrzej Busza

Andrzej Busza (born November 17, 1938 in Krakow ) is a Polish poet , translator and literary historian . In his scientific research he mainly deals with the work of Joseph Conrad . He is the nephew of the writer Wit Tarnawski .

Life

Busza was born in Krakow and spent time in the Middle East during World War II . In November 1947 he came to England and attended St. Joseph's College in London . He then studied English at the University of London , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1959 and a Master of Arts in 1963 . During his student days he was editor of the monthly Kontynenty-Nowy Merkuriusz from 1958 to 1962 , in which he made his debut in 1959 as a literary critic . As a poet, he made his debut in England in 1959 with the poem Znaki na wodzie , which was published in the magazine Kontynenty , and in 1960 in Poland with the poems Feniks and Odeszły ode mnie domy… , which appeared in the Polish monthly Odra . In the following years he published Polish and English poems and reviews in the journals Wiadomości (1960–1973), Więzi (1960–1961, 1966), Współczesność (1960, 1964–1965) and Odra (1964–1965, 1968). In 1965 he moved to Canada and lectured at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver . In addition, he continued to publish poems in the magazines Oficyna Poetów (1968–1970) and Tygodnik Powszechny (1974–1975).

He lives in Canada.
